Windshield Survey of Buckroe, Coliseum Central, North King Street master planning areas Completed July, 2007 Recommendation: Develop historic context for Coliseum Central and North King maintain mid- century war era suburban housing tracts (Beyond current scope) Recommendation: Buckroe has historic significance but lacks integrity for district. Develop design guidelines (Beyond current scope) No new historic districts proposed Concurrence on results from DHR and City staff August, 2008

Refinement of Boundaries for Old Wythe and Pasture Point Historic Districts Completed July 2007 Recommendations both districts are National Register eligible under Criteria A (associated with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad patterns of our history) and C (embody the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction) Concurrence on results from DHR and City staff August, 2008

Old Wythe Historic District Period of Significance 1880-1953 Significance relates to –Streetcar lines and suburban development –Community planning and Architecture –Hampton Roads waterfront Eclectic mix of housing styles typical of early transportation-related suburban development

Kecoughtan Rd. historically commercial and served as a North/South division Plantations and large homes on Chesapeake Ave. provided land for future development Streetcar lines on La Salle Ave, Chesapeake Ave (the Boulevard) and Victoria Blvd Water provides natural southern boundary

Organizational Recommendation Blue boundaries surveyed at this stage. Conduct future study of architectural resources in green, purple, pink.

Proposed District Boundaries 200 Properties Surveyed 181 Contribute to District Boundaries follow original 1885 subdivision as platted to Old Dominion from Booker, Woodfin and Watkins

National Register Nomination Status Pasture Point Survey completed and submitted to DHR and City, nomination draft submitted for review Old Wythe field survey of 1400+ properties at 80% completion, 300 database entries submitted to DHR for review Preliminary Old Wythe National Register nomination submitted for review National Register Nominations to be revised and complete for February 29 submittal Final survey submittals by May 2008
