Today’s Standard Sentence Structure 1.2 Identify and use parallelism, including similar grammatical forms, in all written discourse to present items in a series and items juxtaposed for emphasis.

Who knows what juxtaposed means? To place side by side, especially for comparison or contrast. Example: We are either skiing in Utah or snorkeling in Hawaii over winter break. The underlined items are juxtaposed.

Parallelism: Making all component parts of items in a sentence “equal” and therefore balanced. Example (not parallel): When I grow up I want to become a writer, will go on lots of trips, loving my life and freedom. How could you change this sentence so that the underlined portions are equal and balanced?
5
Example (parallel): When I grow up I want to become a writer, travel the world, and enjoy my life and freedom. three verb phrases in future tense.
6
Example (not parallel): Johnathon is an athlete, out-going, and making straight A’s. This sentence has a noun, an adjective and a verb phrase. How would you make this sentence parallel?
7
Examples (parallel): Johnathon is athletic, out-going, and studious. Three adjectives Johnathon is an athlete, an out-going person, and a straight A student. Three nouns in a series. Johnathon plays sports, socializes with everyone, and makes great grades. Three verb phrases.
