1 ROOM SELECTION 2016 - 2017 Office of Residential Life

2 IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR 2016-2017 Meal plans will change from weekly plan to block plan Rosary Hall will be off-line Amenities Fee will not be charged to residential students Cable television will be replaced by Internet Television Cost of Room and Board cost will be decreasing

4 REQUIREMENTS IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE  Register for Fall 2016 classes  Pay a non-refundable Room Deposit by April 22, 2016  Complete Housing Application

5 ROOM DEPOSIT The room deposit is a flat fee of $250.00 (for a single or double). This is due by April 22, 2016. To make your payment:  Log-on to www.usj.edu/payonlinewww.usj.edu/payonline  Select Housing Deposit Returning Students. There is a fee to use a credit card or debit card for payment, but no fee if you use your checking or savings account. The room deposit fee is non-refundable and rolls into room and board costs.

6 THE LOTTERY PROCESS  The process is done by lottery number which is based on accumulated credits (class rank)  Lottery lists are randomly generated by a computer program  Lottery lists will be posted on the Residential Life myUSJ page.

7 MEAL PLAN OPTIONS Meal Plan Options have changed for the 2016-2017 semester 150 Block (10 Meal Plan): only an option for seniors and juniors (54+ credits). 225 Block (15 Meal Plan): only an option for seniors, juniors (54+ credits) and sophomores. 285 Block (19 Meal Plan): only an option for seniors, juniors (54+ credits) and sophomores. If a student requires a Meal Plan Exemption – they must fill out the meal plan exemption form with Disability Services. Medical Documentation is required with all exemption forms. This is due no later than August 1, 2016 for all returning students.

8 RESIDENCE HALLS AVAILABLE FOR 2016-2017  Assumption Hall – 1 st floor, partially 2 nd floor and 3 rd floor (SOAR is on 1 st floor and SoFo is on 2 nd floor)  Madonna Hall – 2 nd floor only  McAuley Hall – 2 nd floor only  North Hall  South Hall *Please be aware that there is a cost difference of living in North and South Hall compared to living in the other residence halls*

9 NORTH AND SOUTH RESIDENCE HALLS You must be of current junior status (you must have 54+ credits by opening Fall 2016) to choose a room in North and South Hall Two individuals must pick a room together (all rooms are double occupancy). Each 1 st floor wing consists of 4 double rooms (8 beds). Each 2 nd floor wing consists of 5 double rooms (10 beds).  Students will not be able to choose an entire wing as a group - it is all based on lottery numbers generated by the computer.

10 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION An upper-class student may pull in an underclass student with their lottery number.  This does not apply to North & South Hall. A current resident student may pull in a current commuter with their lottery number. If a student has an outstanding balance with the University or does not pay the $250.00 Housing Deposit by April 22, 2016 they cannot choose a room on April 29, 2016. If you pay your Housing Deposit after April 22, 2016, you will select your room after Room Selection.

11 THE HOUSING APPLICATION  The housing application is for one (1) academic year  The housing application is on the Residential Life myUSJ page and must be downloaded and both pages printed  The Housing Application is a pdf fillable form.  Students will not be allowed to just decide to move out of housing after a contract has been signed and a room has been selected. There is a process to follow!

13 CANNOT MAKE ROOM SELECTION?  If a student cannot make Room Selection they can have a student proxy for them.  The student must fill out a Housing Application and Room Selection Proxy form.  Also, you need to designate a person to pick your Fall room assignment.  If the Proxy form and Housing Application is not filled out/signed by the absent student then that proxy cannot choose a room for that student.

14 MEDICAL SINGLE  You must submit medical documentation and complete the Medical Single Application by April 7, 2016 to Health Services/Red House for review. This must be completed every year!  If a bathroom is needed the documentation from your physician needs to indicate that specifically.  Students who have submitted a complete application will be notified after April 15, 2016.  Medical singles are located in Assumption, Madonna and McAuley Hall, North and South

15 ROOM SELECTION PROCESS  Show up during your designated time slot with completed Housing Application. If not, you wait until the end of the group selects.  The line will be organized by class lottery number (#1- ?)  When it is your turn, you will mention which hall you would like to live in  You will be directed to the proper table. If someone is selecting in that residence hall, you will wait until they have selected.  You select the room based upon availability and a staff member will write in on your Housing Application.  Hand in your Housing Application to exit table

16 INFORMATION FOR ROOM SELECTION  All rooms on campus are double rooms with a small amount of single rooms throughout the residence halls.  If you do not have someone selected as a roommate, there will be a roommate mixer organized by the RA staff on April 6 th.  If you do not have a roommate you complete the Room Selection Building Preference Form. You will not select a room and will be housed and receive a roommate during the summer when new students and transfer students are housed.  You must print both sides and complete the entire Housing Application and select a meal plan. You are required to bring the Housing Application with you the day of Room Selection.

17 IMPORTANT DATES April: Register for Fall 2016 classes Wednesday April 6, 2016: Roommate Mixer Wednesday April 12, 2016: Suite Open House Thursday April 7, 2016: Medical Single Request Form due Friday April 22, 2016: $250 room deposit due Friday April 29, 2016: You must attend Room Selection in McGovern Hall Lounge, bring your completed 2016-2017 Housing Application or have a friend proxy for you.
