2. Eyjafjallajokull is an active volcano in Iceland. It is 1080 miles from Lawshall as the crow flies. It’s name means glacier of the mountain islands.

3. The volcano is quite active. Its last eruptions in April 2010 caused wide spread cancellation of flights in Europe. Over 95,000 flights were cancelled over a 6 day period over fears the volcanic ash could damage plane engines.

4. The volcano is a stratovolcano covered by an ice- cap.stratovolcano It stands 1,651m at its highest point. There are also caldera and the biggest crater is 3–4 km in diameter.

5. Between 1821-23 the volcano erupted several times and the ashes contained high levels of fluoride. Unfortunately this poisoned many sheep cattle and horses in the area. The eruption also caused some small and medium glacier runs and flooding in nearby rivers (Markarfljót and Holtsá).MarkarfljótHoltsá
