CDVEC Foundations Project ‘moving on from homelessness through education’

Foundations Project Established in 2001, specifically to provide education for Dublin city homeless service-users. Integrated Strategy on Homelessness Adult Programmes, After-School programmes & Youth Club Adult Programmes Based in Parnell Adult Learning Centre, 1 Parnell Square or provided on an outreach basis in homeless services. After Schools / Youth Club For 5 – 15 yr olds based in Sean McDermott St, D1.

Adult Programmes Participation Levels Around 250 participants from homeless services each year in structured programmes/classes. Additional 250 drop-in visits looking for advice, information, support etc. Courses run in Parnell Adult Learning Centre and on an outreach basis in homeless services. 50% of students attend classes regularly often 2/3 times per week over a 2-3 month period minimum. Wide range of educational levels. 70% male students & 30% female. Participation levels of women and young males can be low, CDVEC specifically target certain services to encourage participation.

Wide range of programmes offered Strong focus on creative, leisure and social activities. Programmes include: Computers Health & Fitness / Gym Photography Yoga Art 1-to-1 Literacy / Study Skills Creative Writing Social Studies Settlement Skills

Other popular courses include : Allotment Gardening Fishing Preparation for Work Cookery Guitars Excursions e.g. pitch & putt, climbing wall, museums & galleries, sailing trips etc

EMPLOYMENT If employment is your main priority, the following organisations can help Business in the Community offers a chance to gain work experience and get further training in CV and interview preparation. Local Employment Service is a local, and free service to long term unemployed. CE schemes and FAS courses can be accessed through this service. We can help you access any of these services via referrals and appointments. PROGRAMMES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE We also run an after-schools programme and youth club for families in B&Bs or hostels as well as providing courses for parents whose children are attending these programmes. Adult Education Foundations Project also offers a range of adult education programmes for people using homeless services. These courses are in 1 Parnell Square or on an outreach basis in hostels. Courses include Computers, Photography, Health & Fitness, Literacy Support and Settlement Skills etc. Some are FETAC accredited. All courses are free. We can also help you find suitable courses all around the city. Please contact James or Noel 878 6658, extension 1 or 2 for more information Parents Group We also run a parents group, with useful information around children’s behaviour, parenting skills, health & nutrition, drugs awareness etc.
