2. SUPPLIES:  Pen or pencil  Lined sheet of paper  Phone or computer

3. GOALS OF TODAY’S LESSON  Understand what is happening event-wise in the world  Start to look at the significance of these events  Speaking & listening practice  Review examples of leads in real media

4. AGENDA  You will get 25 minutes to research events in the following topics:  World news  US Events  Science  Entertainment  Copy down the lead for each article and any other additional important facts.  You have four topics to cover so move quickly.

5. AT THE END OF THE 25 MINUTES  You will get a series of topics taken from world news today.  You will have to talk about each topic for a minute and a half with your group  You get points for keeping the conversation going the full 1.5 minutes and your participation (No participation = no points)  The group with the highest QUALITY conversation will win the smarty-pants award and get CANDY
