2 Born April 23, 1564 (Baptized April 26) Died April 23, 1616 Born and lived in Stratford-Upon-Avon Parents: John Shakespeare and Mary Arden Had 2 older sisters and 3 younger brothers Educated at the King’s New School Did not go to University Married Anne Hathaway in 1582 Had 3 children Oldest daughter- Susanna Twins- Judith and Hamnet Hamnet died at age 11

3 Lost years: 1585-1592 For 7 years after the birth of the twins no record exists of what Shakespeare was doing By 1592 evidence exists that he was popular and successful in London as an actor and playwright Was a member of The Lord Chamberlain’s Men Company of Theatrical Players This group became known as The King’s Men after King James their patron Wrote 154 sonnets Form of poetry Used to make money when the theatres were closed for plague in the 1590s Wrote 37 plays Histories, comedies, and tragedies
