3 COPYRIGHT the legal protection any artist has for the work he or she creates.

4 What can be copyrighted? Tangible, original expression such as music, video, photographs, presentations, text, artwork and prints.

5 The 1976 Copyright Act gives the owner of the copyright exclusive rights to reproduce, distribute copies, perform or display the copyrighted work.

6 The copyright symbol does not have to be visible for the protection to exist. ©

7 Fair Use A section of the US copyright law that allows the use of copyrighted works in reporting news, conducting research, and teaching

8 Fair Use rules While in school, students are allowed to use materials on a limited basis as part of the learning process.

9 GUIDELINES Apply to the total amount of material from a single copyrighted work. In each alternative, it is the lesser of the two.
