3 Parsing call numbers for labels The call number that is exported in the Label Printing Web Service is parsed and broken down into parts. Routines are used to parse the call numbers. This is useful because then when the label is printed as a spine label it will appear correctly. Different parts of the label will appear on different lines http://lib.kedah.uitm.edu.my/psblibrary/susun_files/spine_labels.gif

4 Parsing call numbers for labels It is possible to configure various parsing routines per call number type This may be done via menu Resource Management > Resource Configuration > Configuration Menu > General > Call Number Parsing

5 Parsing call numbers for labels For details on each parsing routine type see the documentation

6 Parsing call numbers for labels Title “The history of library automation” has two items. They have call numbers: Q 141.F345 2007 Q 143.L5 C37 2007 These items are part of a set of items saved as Type = logical Contents type = physical items

7 Parsing call numbers for labels We will now print the xml file to be used by the label printing program, which will include the parsed call number We will run this process on the set containing the previously shown items

8 Parsing call numbers for labels In the xml file we can see the parsed call number These are the fields that the label printing software should use for printing the spine label

9 Parsing call numbers for labels The xml file with the parsed call number is then passed on to an external software to do the actual printing to a physical label. A popular option as an external software is ‘Spine-O- Matic’ The current version of SpineOMatic and the user's manual can be downloaded from the SpineOMatic Download Page at http://arc.bc.edu:8080/Getfilehttp://arc.bc.edu:8080/Getfile See also the Blog on the Ex Libris Developers Network from BC (the makers of Spine-O-Matic) at https://developers.exlibrisgroup.com/blog/SpineOMa tic-Label-Printing-Software-for-Alma https://developers.exlibrisgroup.com/blog/SpineOMa tic-Label-Printing-Software-for-Alma
