2 LISTENING STRATEGIES STRATEGIESI USE THIS STRATEGY AND I LIKE IT I watch movies and TV shows in English. 80% I listen to my favourite songs in English. 60% I listen for the important words without translating it word-for- word. 40% I ask the person to repeat or explain again in a simpler way. 80% I guess the meaning from what I heard or from my own knowledge on the topic. 40% 60% of the respondents use and like the listening strategies.

4 WRITING STRATEGIES STRATEGIESI USE THIS STRATEGY AND I LIKE IT I plan what I am going to write in Malay first before writing in English. 40% I ask the lecturer to check my writing. 70% I use dictionary when writing to look for suitable words to use. 50% I use spell checker in the computer while writing. 30% I read back what I have written to see if it is good and make necessary corrections. 80% 54% of the respondents use and like the writing strategies.

5 READING STRATEGIES STRATEGIESI USE AND LIKE THIS STRATEGY I look for interesting reading materials in English. 60% I skim over the reading materials to get the main idea and then go back and read it more carefully. 60% Guess the approximate meaning by using clues from the context of the reading materials. 50% Use a bilingual dictionary to get a sense of what the equivalent word in Malay would be. 40% Use English-English dictionary to see how words are defined. 60% 54% of the respondents use and like the reading strategies.

6 VOCABULARY STRATEGIES STRATEGIESI USE AND LIKE THIS STRATEGY I write the new words on a card. 30% I use bilingual (English-Malay-English) to look for meaning of words. 70% I use English-English dictionary to look for meaning of words. 40% I make intelligent guesses about the meaning based on my knowledge on the topic. 20% I use flash cards to learn new words. 30% 38% of the respondents use and like the vocabulary strategies.

7 GRAMMAR STRATEGIES STRATEGIESI USE AND LIKE THIS STRATEGY I use the dictionary to check the grammar usage. 40% I do grammar exercises at home to improve my grammar. 30% I ask help from my friends and lecturers. 80% I form what I want to say/ write in Malay first before translating it to English. 20% I use the internet to look for information of the grammar part. 30% 40% of the respondents use and like the grammar strategies.
