MWA Spring Workshop May 2016 Battery Collection System Curbside Collection Twice annual collection in spring and fall; Battery bags placed on top of fibre Blue Box; Battery stickers placed on sealable bag; Collection Contractors separate battery bags into 20L pails on their collection equipment; Full pails exchanged for empty pails by Supervisors; Collected batteries delivered to Waste Management Centre for debagging into steel drums.

MWA Spring Workshop May 2016 Unacceptable Materials Residue rates continue to be negligible for each collection. Examples: compact fluorescent bulbs, ink cartridges, remote controls, smoke detectors, electric toothbrushes.

MWA Spring Workshop May 2016 Multi-Residential Expansion Regional Council approved program in 2013; Battery collection program available at fifty (50) buildings to date; Properties being added every year; Buildings manage materials directly with Raw Materials Company; Durham receives revenue ($/lb) from Raw Materials Company Inc. Approximately 1.5 tonnes have been diverted from waste stream to date.
