What is important to know about muscles?
Muscle contracts to move bones and body parts. Muscles pull never push. Muscles look either striated or smooth: Striated muscle has stripes or striations in it. Smooth muscle does not. Also, muscles are labeled as either voluntary or involuntary. Voluntary muscles are muscles that you can move whenever you want to. Involuntary muscles contract and relax automatically inside your body. We can not control our involuntary muscles. Muscles will either contract (shorten) or relax (lengthen)

Skeletal System Joints: Connectors:
Are places where one bone meets another. Three major types of joints: Hinge (elbow) Pivot (Neck) Ball & Socket (Hip & Shoulder) Connectors: Cartilage: Connecting tissue that covers ends of bones and supports certain structures. Ligaments: Connecting tissue that hold bones in place at joints. Tendons: Connecting tissue that move bones when muscles contract.
