7 10 Gigabit Ethernet  Negotiation of contract for HW  Catalyst 6503 with ER modules (1550 nm)  Optical amplifiers, fiber test-beds prepared  First 10 GE backbone line is operated by PASNET (metropolitan acadamic network)  1310 LR modules, 1 fibre transmission, passive splitters, length 6 km
