1
Advanced Blogging- for those of you who want to do more than just type messages…
2
Purpose and Objectives Using HTML code (text widget) Creating a link with a picture Using Widgets Making a "Home Page" Adding a PowerPoint (or other file i.e. PDF) Embedding an audio message
3
Setting a home page… the first thing you have to do in order to make a “home-page” is to make a page…
4
Creating links… A link is something a person will click to take them to another location – usually outside of your blog – you can link from a picture, phrase, or whatever else you can create in a page or post…
5
Setting a home page… Next, go to the settings menu, readings submenu, and select the static homepage… Whatever page you select will be your homepage – I like mine un-named so that when I list the pages in my left/right columns, it doesn’t show up…
6
Embedding… When you embed something in a post/page, you actually write in html code (or more often you copy it) telling the post/page that you want the material stuck in the post/page you’re working with – the advantage to this is that people never have to leave your blog… Embedding works with: videos from webertube/youtube/TV networks/etc. documents & files from webertube anything you can find an embed code for If you want to embed actual webpages into your blog, you have to use what’s called an “iFrame”
7
Find something you want to embed… Webertube Youtube Most tv networks Record your own on a doc camera/webcam – this will need to be transferred to webertube first! Record your desktop using something like Camstudio – again, anything you make will need to be saved to webertube first! For now, go out to one of these and find something that has an embed code…
10
Embedding docs/pdfs/powerpoints is just the same Look at my blog to see what this looks like…
11
iFrame… An iframe is like a hyperlink to an offsite place that remains in your blog - to do this, you need a bit of html code….
14
Widgets… A widget is a “web-gadget”, and there are literally tens of thousands of them – to get a new one that is not listed, ask Justin Reeves… If you want to use widgets, make sure your theme is widget-ready!
