Year 11 PE

 To give an object momentum in activities such as throwing, kicking or striking an object, the amount of momentum given to the object is determined by ‘ the sum of all forces generated by each body part.

 To get as much force as possible ◦ 1.) Use as many muscles as possible. E.g use the quads, abdominals, deltoid, forearm etc. ◦ 2.) Use the muscle in the correct order, using large muscle first and then the smallest muscles last. ◦ 3.) Use the proper sequence. This is important so that force is transferred from muscle to muscle. ◦ 4.) Stretch muscles to their full length.

Look at his Base of Support!!

The first muscles Being activated are In the legs. Eg. Gastrocnemius, Quadriceps, and Hamstrings.

First movement, is to step forward

Momentum transfers from the legs to hips and lower back as the hips rotate around.

Momentum transfers from the torso, to the shoulder. Look at the position of the elbow. try to put your elbow in that position without the help of force Summation.

Momentum transfers from the shoulder to the elbow, which is now fully extended.

Lastly the momentum transfers to the wrist, which flexes downwards as the ball is released

A proper follow through, indicates that there was an efficient transfer of momentum. In addition, the follow through also safely slows down the muscles

 Watch for the transfer of momentum from one muscle group to the next.
