5 How does the intervention work? Other researchers have found that correcting normative perceptions mediates the impact of the intervention –Statistical mediator analyses Need to conduct research where hypothesized mediator is systematically varied as part of the experimental design

6 Pilot study Recruiting participants to ‘help us revise and evaluation Internet-based interventions for alcohol users’ Randomize to four conditions in two by two design: –Provide/don’t provide normative feedback –Provide/don’t provide other personalized feedback Three-month follow-up 809 participants recruited (596; 73% fu) 6
