High levels of EEG coherence measured during Transcendental Meditation are significantly correlated with higher creativity, greater efficiency in learning new concepts, more principled moral reasoning, higher verbal intelligence (IQ), less neuroticism, higher academic achievement, clearer experiences of Transcendental Consciousness, and greater neurological efficiency (faster spinal reflex recovery). Ugandan nurse says… “I teach pregnant women how to prepare themselves before giving birth but in most cases they come here with no preparation at all. That could make me angry and even rude. Since I learned TM I no longer get angry like I used to. I’m no longer stressed. Those who knew me before, tell me that I am so relaxed and settled, that even my face is usually happy, but its only because of meditation. Nagawa Florence, Nurse Midwife
38
How to Learn TM is taught in a systematic way in a 4 Day course for about 90 minutes on each day. TM has been taught by trained, certified teachers in all parts of the world for over 50 years in over 70 countries
39
Conclusion TM is a practical tool that can be easily learned by anyone Improving resiliency in nurses and midwives through TM can provide a foundation—a force—for positive change in the healthcare system. Africa can lead the way in reducing the damaging effect of stress and burnout.
