2 March 2005Safety Lock Mailbox3 Question #1 Q. How will outgoing mail be stored? A. A 1.5” x 4” x 9” exterior slot has been added to the exterior of the box. Material will be added to the front door to protect the mail from rain and wind.

2 March 2005Safety Lock Mailbox4 Question #2 Q. Will there be protection against prying or bending the closed floor into the open position? A. A interlocking key has been added to the design. This will allow more secure contact between the connecting sections of the floor. The clearance of the joining will now be minimal. Overlapping the floor was avoided because it would allow for a better grip.

2 March 2005Safety Lock Mailbox5 Question #3 Q. Will the mailbox be resistant to a baseball bat or a small explosive? A. The objective of the design is to produce a deterrent from mail theft. If an individual cares enough to use excessive means to enter the box, the resident will be able to see the damage and contact relevant authorities. The mailbox will have a strong enough exterior to withstand “vandalism”, but the design is not expected to withhold excessive abuse (i.e. bombs, cars, etc.)

2 March 2005Safety Lock Mailbox6 Question #4 Q. How will excessive moisture be dealt with? A. The design included a ridged bottom floor to the storage bin. Small holes will be drilled in the bottom of receptacle to allow water to drain. Additional weathering effects will be overcome by using non corrosive material (plastic or stainless steel)

2 March 2005Safety Lock Mailbox7 Question #5 Q. What will happen if the resident takes a long vacation, will the mail get jammed? A. The Safety Mailbox was designed to handle the same volume of mail as a typical mailbox. If the resident is aware of a vacation he/she should take the same measures as they would without a safety mailbox.
