1 Unalienable Rights “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men…” - Declaration of Independence

2 Rights and Freedom? Do you have the right or freedom to do what you want? People have the right to do as they please as long as they do not infringe on the rights of others.

4 Who has Rights? The Japanese were forcibly removed from the Pacific Coast after the bombing at Pearl Harbor and placed in internment camps.

5 Bill of Rights Civil Liberties- protections against the government. Due Process Clause- “ No State shall… deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law” - 14th Amendment of the Constitution

6 Freedom of Religion A free society cannot exist without rights of free expression. Establishment Clause- Separates church and state.
