Radians Aims To know how to convert angles from degrees to radians To know how to convert angles from radians to degrees
4
Radians Radians are a different measure for angles. There are 2π radians in a full turn. We always use radians instead of degrees when dealing with calculus. This gives values that are a lot more to scale.
5
Converting between Degrees and Radians 1 radian = degrees 1 degree = radians To convert degrees to radians d degreesr radians r = d / 180 x To convert radians to degrees d degreesr radians d = r / x 180 Write as a fraction of 180 then multiply by π. Just swap π for 180!

Mini White Boards Lets try some white board questions. We need to convert from degrees to radians and also radians to degrees. Key fact is that
8
Worksheet Questions Complete the worksheet questions to check your understanding.
12
Ordering Task Place the cards in order from smallest to largest.
13
Presentation Ideas 1)Use a number line drawn to scale. 2)Draw round a point.
14
Solving Equations To solve equations in radians the only thing you need to differently is change the calculator mode. Press the mode key and select rad for radians mode. This will now give answers to sin -1 and cos -1 in radians not degrees
16
Find the equation of each graph
17
Max and Min Values You can use your knowledge of the graphs. And also transformations to find the max and min values. Lets try a few.
18
1. a) What is the maximum value of y = 3sin2x + 6. b) At what value of x does this maximum occur?
21
Worksheet Questions Work out what you think the max and min values should be. You can use www.desmos.com to check your answers to the worksheet questions.www.desmos.com
