1 ORGANELLES IN CELLULAR TRANSPORT Endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, vesicles, cytoplasm. Warm-up Questions: What is the difference between active and passive transport? What is the difference between pinocytosis and phagosytosis?

2 Endoplasmic reticulum in cellular transport.  The ribosomes on the rough endoplasmic reticulum synthesize which enter the channels of the endoplasmic reticulum packaging and shipping to the Golgi bodies. They are enveloped into pockets. These pockets, vesicles, leave the ER to transport the proteins to other parts of the cell for use. ER Video

3 Golgi apparatus in cellular transport.  The Golgi body modifies proteins that it receives from the ER and sends them back out to the cell contained in vesicles which move through the cytoplasm. It also transports lipids and creates lysosomes. Golgi video.

4 Cytoplasm  The cytoplasm contains enzymes responsible for breaking down particles within the cell. It also houses many of the particles needed for cell function and facilitates transport within the cell. It provides a “highway” system for the transport of particles within vesicles.
