These plates – called ‘tectonic plates’ – slowly move around on top of the crust. Two or more plates can meet at a ‘Plate Boundary’. Plate boundaries can form trenches, mountains, volcanoes or earthquakes depending on how the plates interact. The Crust

The mantle is composed of molten (liquid) rock called magma. This liquid rock circulates very slowly, moving the tectonic plates of the crust with it. When magma erupts through the earth’s crust via a volcano, it is called lava. The Mantle
