Co-ordination & Harmonisation of Advanced e-INfrastructures WP4 : Modelling the cooperation of European e-Infrastructures with non-European ones Ludek Matyska; CESNET; Czech Republic

Workpackage Objectives  Study and propose a model for cooperation and interoperation between EU and non-EU e-Infrastructures  Perform an organizational study, taking into account regional “customization”  Produce a roadmap for the follow-up of extensions to the EGI, based on feedback from actors worldwide on the proposed model 13/12/2010CHAIN Kick-off meeting, Rome2

Partners and Effort  INFN26 PM  CIEMAT 4 PM  GRNET 8 PM  CESNET 9 PM  UBUNTUNET 8 PM  CLARA 7 PM  IHEP12 PM  PSA 8 PM 13/12/2010CHAIN Kick-off meeting, Rome3

Structure  Task 4.1: Organizational study  Leader CESNET  Task 4.2: Regional Operations Studies  Leader INFN  Task 4.3: Roadmap  Leader CESNET 13/12/2010CHAIN Kick-off meeting, Rome4

Task 4.1 Organizational Study  Together with WP2 and WP3 to study an organizational model for cooperation and interoperation between EGI and external e-Infrastructures  Evaluate the opportunities from evolution of EGI  Asses interoperation issues worldwide  Evaluate appropriate measures for smooth interoperability in the near future  Strong and continuous cooperation with EGI  Outputs are expected to be taken by EGI  An MoU is foreseen 13/12/2010CHAIN Kick-off meeting, Rome5

Task 4.2 Regional Operations Studies  Assessment and evaluation of specificities of the various regional operations, interoperability with different middleware and migration toward standards (with EGI planning)  Based on the work of WP2  Continuous interaction with regional e-Infrastructures  In the second phase, it will assess the applicability of T4.1 results, differentiating between regions  A developing region (e.g. Africa)  A well established e-Infrastructure with non-EGI middleware (e.g. China) 13/12/2010CHAIN Kick-off meeting, Rome6

T4.3 Roadmap  A follow up of the project  Address the timeline of the implementation of CHAIN results  Roadmap foundations:  A detailed analysis of changes in EGI due to new organizational structure  The characteristics of non-EU e-Infrastructures, highlighting commonalities and differences  Opportunities offered by existing and emerging standards  Taking into account paradigms like Virtualization, Voluntary Computing and Cloud Computing 13/12/2010CHAIN Kick-off meeting, Rome7

Deliverables and Timing  D4.1: Specificities of the various regional e-Infrastructures  CESNET, M8 (July 2011)  Highlight and justify different activities needed to acknowledge diversities of regions  D4.2: Report on the applicability of the preliminary results of the Organizational Study  INFN, M16 (March 2012)  Results of the pilot to demonstrate the applicability of T4.1 results in different regional situations  D4.3: Organizational study for interoperations of EGI with external grid infrastructures  CESNET, M22 (September 2012)  The proposal of an organizational model  D4.4: Roadmap of follow up activities  CESNET, M24 (October 2012)  Roadmap for e-Infrastructures in different regions and the activities needed to deploy the proposed organizational model 13/12/2010CHAIN Kick-off meeting, Rome8

Milestones  MS8: Brainstorming Meeting jointly organized with EGI  M3 (February 2011)  MS9: Preliminary organizational model presented at the fourth thematic workshop  M20 (July 2012) 13/12/2010CHAIN Kick-off meeting, Rome9

Major Results and Outcomes  Organizational study with regional customization applied to a shared organizational model for sustainability  The final results are  The organizational study (defines interoperations)  The Roadmap (defines the follow up activities) 13/12/2010CHAIN Kick-off meeting, Rome10

Way of work  A series of cyclic processes  WP2 results + Joint meetings with EGI + Regional e- Infrastructures  Deliverables D4.2 and D4.3  Close collaboration with WP2 and WP3  Based on results obtained therein  Close collaboration with EGI.eu and EGI InSPIRE to maximize their involvement in the definition of the proposed model  the goal is to ensure the Organizational Model and the Roadmap will be actually adopted/used by EGI.eu 13/12/2010CHAIN Kick-off meeting, Rome11

Immediate activities  Organization of the Brainstorming meeting with EGI  Planned for February 2011  There will be EGI Council meeting on 17 th and 18 th February  Regional e-Infrastructures representatives  D4.1 Specificities of the various regional e-Infrastructures  Due in July 2011  Based on results from WP2  The questionnaire results available in May 2011 (timely availability of results critical)  Also WP3 contribution through D3.1 due in May 2011  More specific definition of partners’ involvement and responsibilities  Participation in the Brainstorming event  Input into the D4.1 (in parallel with the input from the questionnaire) 13/12/2010CHAIN Kick-off meeting, Rome12

Thank you for your attention Further questions? 13/12/2010CHAIN Kick-off meeting, Rome13
