RUGIT - Mission and Aims Mission To provide leadership in the innovative provision of IT&S to further the aims of research-led institutions. Aims a.To provide an effective lobby for research-led universities and for the provision of IT&S resources to underpin wider Higher Education mission and aims. b.Help formulate and promote best practice use of IT&S and associated processes, organisation and governance. c.Identify and promote academic and business change through the application of large-scale IT&S. d.Pursue opportunities for collaboration amongst RUGIT members. e.Provide proactive advice to support the Russell Group aims and objectives See www.rugit.ac.uk

RUGIT - How do we work? Executive - Chair, Deputy, Secretary, Treasurer Membership subscription of £1,000/Institution 3 annual meetings plus an “Away Day” (funded by subscription) Meetings tend to follow a pattern of:- -Pre-Meeting “3 Issues” List -Agenda with up to 2 “discussion items” -Informal “mixing time” over buffet lunch -Some “standing items” -(Usually 1 member/Institution, but not always) We also tend to have some “themes” which run for a year or so eg Gartner’s “Hype Cycle” curves, Shared Services etc…

RUGIT - Current Issues The major items which dominates our discussions is “Shared Services” because it gives us the opportunity for more collaborative activities. Currently, these include:- –Research Project Data Storage (RUGIT + CURL) –New Data Centres (about to start) –Post-RAE research application systems (gleam in the eye)

Suggestions to 94 Group The RUGIT Group welcome the formation of the 94 Group of IT Directors and would very much like to offer whatever help we can to make you successful. However:- We both need to avoid charges of “elitism” We both need to avoid weakening UCISA We both need to find ways of supporting/complementing each others activities What help and support can RUGIT offer to you?
