What is the CACFP? Federally funded child nutrition program sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Purpose of program is to serve healthy meals

Why Participate in the CACFP? Purchase foods with greater nutritional quality Improve the health of participants by providing more nutritious meals and snacks Teach children healthy eating at an early age Enable adult participants to remain independent longer

Other Program Requirements Daily –Point of service meal counts / infant meal records –Menus and production records Monthly –Maintain food program enrollment and eligibility documentation –Compile reimbursement claim and maintain support documentation –Financial recordkeeping to show how funding is spent

MYTHS of the CACFP MYTH: The CACFP will pay for all food service costs. FACT: The CACFP provides financial assistance to help pay for food service program costs, such as food, non-food and food service labor costs; it will not fully fund these costs.

MYTHS of the CACFP MYTH: All meals and snacks served to participants are reimbursed FACT: There is a limit to the number of meals/snacks an organization can claim –Most Orgs: 2 meals/1 snack; 2 snacks, 1 meal –Emergency Shelters: Up to 3 meals/snacks –At-Risk Afterschool Programs: 1 meal, 1 snack

MYTHS of the CACFP MYTH: An organization is required to be on the CACFP. FACTS: –Except for Head Start Programs, there is no requirement –When an organization fails to meet program requirements, CACFP participation may be terminated –Organizations must be financially viable
