East Aiken School of the Arts 2014-2015 Welcome to 4 th Grade!

Daily Schedule After homeroom, students switch classes to receive instruction from their non-homeroom teacher. Before lunch, students return to their homeroom teacher for instruction and the remainder of the day.

School-Wide Expectations At East Aiken School of the Arts, we utilize a school-wide discipline system called Acting Right. Each student is expected to: -Control his/her body -Control his/her voice -Use his/her imagination -Concentrate -Cooperate

Classroom Expectations Before walking around the room or talking aloud, raise your hand and ask for permission. To maintain a safe environment, please keep your hands, feet, and other objects to yourself. Be honest at all times, so that we can all trust and depend on each other. When involved in a learning activity, give your absolute best at all times. To show respect to each member of the classroom, treat others the way you expect to be treated in return.

Classroom Expectations cont. Students are expected to bring all class materials every day. This includes notebooks, folders, agenda, and pencils. Students are expected to return Wednesday Packets to school each Thursday. Please be sure to sign the attached signature page each week so that the teachers will know that you have seen the papers.

Consequences 1 st offense – warning 2 nd offense – recess detention 3 rd offense – – lunch detention (silent lunch) 4 th offense – parent phone call/note 5 th offense – office referral ** Each teacher has their own system of rewards.

Grading Policy Reading, Social Studies, Science, and Math Tests – 40% Quizzes – 30% Classwork/Projects – 20% Homework – 10% Language Arts Composition – 40% Grammar – 40% Spelling – 20%

Transportation Any changes to transportation must be submitted in writing and approved in the front office. If your child does not have a note for a transportation change, they will be sent home by their regular mode of transportation. All drivers/vehicles coming through the car line must have an official East Aiken School of the Arts carline tag. If you did not receive your carline tags during registration, please talk with the office to get yours. This is for the safety and protection of your child!

Dress Code Spaghetti straps, halter tops, tank tops, etc. are not approved by the district’s dress code. If you are unsure, use the 3 finger rule. During the warm weather months, make sure all shorts are the appropriate length. If you are unsure, use the tip of the finger rule. Fashionable jeans/pants with large holes should not be worn to school. Flip flops are not to be worn according to the East Aiken School of the Arts dress code. Sandals may be worn but, must have a heel strap. Keep in mind as holidays and other events approach, that colored hair is not permitted by the district.

Invitations Students may not distribute party invitations during the school day, unless there is an invitation for each child in the student’s homeroom class.

Independence Upper elementary school students are highly encouraged to develop their own independence. Please encourage your student to walk themselves into school each morning.

Parent/Teacher Organization Meeting will be once a month on the first Tuesday of the month. Times will alternate: September Meeting at 3:30 October Meeting at 5:30 November Meeting at 3:30 Child Care is provided. Be sure to check the school newsletter.
