12. Answer Key International Normalized Ratio (INR) The INR is a measure of the amount of time that it takes for the blood to clot. It's a ratio of the sample's clotting time and the reference clotting time. Low clotting times are associated with good liver function and the normal range is 0.8 to 1.2. Mild cirrhosis may be associated with values between 1.2 and 1.7, an INR between 1.71 and 2.2 can mean moderate cirrhosis and an INR greater than 2.2 may indicate severe cirrhosis.
