Is the largest state in the USA by the area. It is situated in the northwest of the North America continent. It is the least densely populated state of the USA. It is also known as Alyeska – the great land (an Aleut word)

Alaska was purchased from Russia for $7.2 million in 1867. Alaska became the 49 th state of the USA in 1959.

Aleut people (Eskimos) are indigenous people of the Aleutian Islands and Alaska. They live along the coast in the south part of Alaska. They are allowed to kill whales. They are good hunters and fishermen. For fishing they use special boat - umiak

There are six generally accepted regions. The climate is different. In the north the weather is extreme (subarctic). The Aleutian Islands are part of Alaska. On these islands there are many active volcanoes. Alaska has more than three million lakes. Permafrost cover really huge area. Alaska has half of the world ‘s glaciers.

Denali contains: The highest mountain of the U.S. – Mount McKinley (it is also called Denali) The longest glacier – Kalhiltna glacier. Denali national park is home of many animals, that are typical for Alaska. It is for example: Polar bear, polar fox, elk, moose, whale, grizzly bear, salmon etc.
