OVERVIEW Not-for-profit healthcare system based in northern Virginia that serves the greater Washington DC metro area Founded in 1956 in Fairfax, VA Includes the areas only Level 1 Trauma Center and Level IV neonatal intensive care unit Currently comprised of 5 hospitals Alexandria, Loudoun, Mount Vernon, Fairfax, Fair Oaks Over 1,700 licensed beds and 16,000 employees

LEVELS OF ACUTE CARE INOVA incorporates all levels of acute care: primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary Primary: treats illnesses that are general, episodic, common, and nonchronic All 5 major hospitals Secondary: treats injuries or illnesses that are chronic and require continuing care INOVA Diabetes Center – Loudoun Hypertension – INOVA Heart and Vascular Center Tertiary: treats complex, acute, and chronic disorders CABG surgery – INOVA Heart and Vascular Center Quaternary: treats uncommon acute and chronic disorders INOVA Transplant Center

POST-ACUTE CARE INOVA also encompasses post-acute rehabilitation centers that provide formal care for patients INOVA Loudoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Specializes in patients with stroke, joint replacements, head injuries, respiratory, cardiac conditions INOVA Rehabilitation Center – Mount Vernon Specializes in stroke and brain injury INOVA VNA Home Health Offers experts in skilled nursing, PT,OT, SLP, social work, personal care
