Jan/Feb Year 9 1995 - Frank Bruno – World Heavy Weight Boxing Champion In 2003, Frank Bruno was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He believes events in his personal life contributed to the breakdown. “Build-up of pressure - marriage breaking up, someone you love dying - it's like having three radios on at the same time.“ In his boxing career, Frank won forty fights. But it was the blows outside the ring, when people found out about his mental health, that really hurt. “Some people don't want to know you any more. You can write one or work in 2 to 3s and create and show the group your piece to the class. We have covered –What is mental health –Depression –Self Harm –Eating disorders –Where to get help from

Jan/Feb Year 9 OBJECTIVEAssessment I can define what mental health is Discussion and written I understand that mental health is a continuum from excellent to poor, on which you can move up and down at different rates. I know some positive and negative signs for mental health. Discussion and written TRIGGERS I am aware of some circumstances when a young person may require help in order for them to have better mental health. Spider gram And/or Notes on poster I know how mental health issues and/or conditions can affect a person day to day life. Discussion and Video I am aware of some mental health conditions that effect young people Discussion I am aware of various places a person could get help from if they had problems with their mental health. Written Learning skill – Team work, discussing with others, listening, writing, research.
