8 Outcomes and Assessment Standards Analysis and Evaluation Outcome 1 The candidate will critically analyse and evaluate complex and sophisticated literary texts in depth by: 1.1 Exploring main ideas and themes 1.2 Applying knowledge and understanding of language to analyse and evaluate meaning and effect 1.3 Exploring connections and comparisons between literary texts Outcome 2 The candidate will develop literary research skills by: 2.1 Producing a research outline in which the purpose of the undertaken literary research is identified and explained. 2.2Selecting, analysing and evaluating evidence from a range of sources 2.3 Understanding approaches to organising research findings.

9 Outcomes and Assessment Standards Creation and Production Outcome 1 The candidate will produce complex and sophisticated written texts by: 1.1 Selecting significant ideas, using a form and structure appropriate to purpose and audience 1.2 Applying knowledge and understanding of language and language choice 1.3 Critically reflecting on the development of their writing

11 Workshop 1 Unit Assessment Using the materials provided, in small groups of 2- 3, discuss:  Identify subject-specific topics for discussion Workshop Aims  To understand the assessment and evidence requirements of Unit Assessment  To consider a range of ways of generating evidence for the Unit Assessment Support provided Using the materials provided, in small groups of 2-3, discuss:  The suitability and accessibility of the task  The judging evidence table  How you might use/adapt this assessment

12 Unit Assessment Support Package 2 Combined approach Combines the two mandatory units – Analysis and Evaluation of Literary Texts unit and the Creation and Production unit Connected by theme through the genre of prose Covers all outcomes and assessment standards of the mandatory units

13 Unit Assessment Support Package 2 Task 1: Analysis and evaluation –  candidates will analyse and evaluate the use of setting to aid character development in at least two prose extracts  the candidate’s findings can be presented in oral or written form  the candidate could choose an approach/texts that can be used for their dissertation Task 2: Creation and Production –  using domestic setting as a way of establishing character, candidates will produce two drafts of a piece of creative writing and reflect on its development  the piece could be developed and included in the Portfolio of writing
