Internships Globalization of internships has accelerated since 2001 Natural outcome of growth in globalization of the world economy Universities have become more accepting of providing credit for internships (wherever they take place) Young people have greater interest to experience what they study/see in the media Advances in communication and more affordable international travel make working abroad more accessible to more students

Competitive Environment Study abroad whets the appetite to want to be more involved in work life in another country Working in another country introduces young people to their peers Broadened choices Keeping up with the Joneses

International Opportunities U.S. is not the only economy which (until very recently) suffers from a shortage of skilled workers European and Asian economies aggressively recruit young people to study and intern in their marketplaces Internship opportunities in Asia for English-speaking young people are growing
