Location Based Early Disaster Warning and Evacuation System on Mobile Phones Using OpenStreetMap Presented by Khandaker Mustakimur Rahman Roll No.: 0704004 Supervised by Tauhidul Alam Lecturer Department of Computer Science & Engineering, CUET

2 Department of CSE, CUET Introduction

3 Department of CSE, CUET Terminology Location Based Service (LBS): provides necessary service to the user about his current location using GPS or network provider. OpenStreetMap(OSM):  Most rapidly growing open source map  Free editable map to utilize  employed in many projects like WikiProject Libya and WikiProject Haiti Android:  open source operating system  Designed for smartphones and tablet computers Cloud to Device Messaging (C2DM):  developers can send data from servers to their applications on Android devices  Device receives a broadcast message

4 Department of CSE, CUET Existing Technology USA, Australia, Japan and South Korea are some of the countries who use technology for their disaster warning system to their citizens but still lack of efficiency and expensive for second world country.  SMS and CB based technology is available in South Korea  Japan use Area Mail technology to warn its fishery boats in the sea  Australian Government had taken decision to use satellite communication

5 Department of CSE, CUET Objective Develop location based information system on mobile phones using OpenStreetMap in Bangladesh. Coordinate the regional weather office, evacuation control authority and mobile phone users prior to the occurrence of disaster through this system. Demonstrate the early disaster warning and the evacuation guideline on the map of the system.

User’s opened the apps on their mobile phone. Device tracked their user’s position via DMS. 09:10 AM Evacuation process was started by the users. 09:20 AM Everyone except one able to reach the safe place. The other one can’t make the distance. 09:25 AM The rescue team rescued the person. 09:30 AM The warning took out and experiment declared complete.

13 Department of CSE, CUET Conclusion Our android application provides visual and audio disaster warning and evacuation help on the OpenStreetMap to user if the device user is in probable disaster affected area considering the user’s current location. Moreover, we have a future plan to implement another application to assist in rescue and relief operation after the disaster and a better server side application to automate the system of detecting disaster prone area.
