3 IUCRC Evaluation Program: Goals 1. Document IUCRC accomplishments and outcomes for NSF & Centers; 2. Promote continuous improvement via actionable, timely, data-based feedback, analysis, and advice to NSF & Centers; 3. Identify and communicate IUCRC best practices to NSF & Centers; 4. Promote understanding of industry-university- government research cooperation.

5 Evaluator's Role  Annual Evaluator's Report  Represent NSF at Center's semi-annual IAB meetings  Administer NSF Industry & Faculty Questionnaires in Fall (except 1st year) & report to Center in Spring  Represent Center at annual IUCRC Program meeting in January & Evaluator meeting in Arlington in June  Advise Center Director on IUCRC best practices  LIFE (Level of Interest Feedback Evaluation) dialogue  Interview Center's inactive Industry members

6 Level-of-Interest Feedback Evaluation (L.I.F.E.): Purposes 1.FEEDBACK for Center Scientists by member organizations on Center research projects:  Members' INTEREST in the projects  PROGRESS & DIRECTION of the research  SUGGESTIONS & OFFERS OF ASSISTANCE, etc. 2.BASIS FOR DIALOGUE among IAB members about Center projects, research agenda, and budget (members-only session with NSF).

7 Level-of-Interest Feedback Evaluation (L.I.F.E.): Process  Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) members RATE interest in projects & COMMENT on scientific merit, design,  IAB reviews & discusses project RATINGS & verbatim comments  IAB selects offers feedback & suggestions on research projects  IAB members ALLOCATE research $ to projects
