9 The Horatio Challenge Horatio are looking for bright, talented young people who have the potential to become great entrepreneurs. If you have an existing business and are looking for investment to grow, or you have an fantastic idea that needs investment to get started, this is an AMAZING opportunity to receive investment of up to £100,000!!

10 ‘Horatio Investments was formed in early 2010 in Glastonbury, Somerset. We are a company with a difference as we invest on our own account and manage £20m. Our ethos is simple: we invest in great business ideas and then work alongside our clients to help them realise their full potential. Our view is that backing business is about more than money. 11 In less than 100 words, we want you to tell us about your existing business, or new business idea. A shortlist of 99 ideas will then be officially notified and asked for more information about their business. The best 4 will get the chance to pitch for investment at Horatio HQ! So let’s get started........... The Horatio Challenge

12 Task 1 - Your idea. It’s the big question - where to start? Maybe you already have an idea that you’ve thought about for ages? It would certainly benefit from thoughts, advice or expertise of your team members. Or maybe you could think of something right now! For inspiration look to businesses you engage with and like (why? What makes them so great?). Or dislike (how could you improve them? What problems could you solve?) Mind Map all of your ideas.

13 Task 2 - USPs What makes your business idea stand out from the crowd? Debate and Mind Map to build a thorough picture of what your business has to offer the market which has never been seen before! Once you’ve done this then identify your Top 3 Unique Selling Points.

14 Task 3 - Your Identity You have your idea but it needs a captivating identity. Design a logo and a tag line ! Graphic design not your thing? Don’t worry! Think about some of the most successful companies in existence, their logos are simple and easily recognisable. Your tagline can also be simple. Just make sure it’s punchy and engaging and says something about your business whether directly or indirectly.

15 Task 4 - The Investment The prize for this challenge is the potential of an amazing £100,000 investment! So, what would you do with it? Mind Map all of your ideas and then with detailed reasoning, list 3 major parts of your business that you would allocate money to.

16 Task 5 - The Pitch In order to receive investment, the top 4 business ideas will get have to pitch for investment at Horatio HQ! So let’s get practising! In your teams put together an engaging presentation evaluating your work today and pitching your idea! This pitch only needs to be about 2 minutes long but use this task as an opportunity to practice your communication skills! Your presentation will also help you clarify the ideas you have generated before producing your challenge submission.

17 Your challenge submission needs to be a statement in less than 100 words, telling us about your existing business, or new business idea. Be engaging, clear about your idea and use your persuasive language skills - remember this is a competition so you need to make your idea stand out from the crowd! Your Submission - what to include

18 An expenses paid trip to the Horatio HQ where you will pitch for up to £100,000 investment in your business or business idea.There are a total of 4 opportunities to receive investment of up to £100,000! These investments will be made as follows; 2 for young people who are already running their business, and 2 more for business ideas. The Prize!:
