3. 3 Social Health Protection in Developping countries The Paris conference:  This conference was announced at the 2006 G8 in Saint Petersbourg "Access to health care in developing countries could be significantly enhanced through a wider range of financing options including health insurance programs. We encourage stepped-up discussion at the international level on practical approaches to the expansion of public, private and community-based health insurance coverage in developing countries, learning from the successes achieved by both developed and developing countries in this regard. We invite the OECD and appropriate organizations to work on this issue.  We welcome France's offer to host a high level meeting on this issue by the end of 2006. "

4. 4 Social Health Protection in Developping countries Conference ’ Objectives:  Investing in Health has a positive effect on macroeconomic growth (WHO Report on Macroeconomics and Health, 2000)  We need all the different actors i.e. national international local levels, civil society and International organizations  We need all kind of financial resources, public and private, sous diverses modalit é s : budget, insurance, mutuelles, micro-assurance etc.  complimentarily and continuity between global funds and Health Systems Strengthening: social health protection mechanisms are an important tool for reinforcing health systems

6. 6 Social Health Protection in Developping countries In June 2007, in Heiligendamn, the G8, welcomed the Franco-German initiative « Providing for Health » This initiative aims at enhancing multilateral and bilateral partnerships in health with national health strategies to improve and strengthen substantially health systems

7. 7 Social Health Protection in Developping countries On September 5, the “ International Health Partnership ” was launched in London by Gordon Brown This initiative aims at effectively applying the principles of the Paris declaration to increase harmonization between donors working in health This harmonization will be efficient and effective only with strong national health plans
