What we will prioritise 2011-14 We have identified the following strategies to achieve our mission. Increasing awareness of our activities (a) among parents and professionals and (b) among opinion formers and funders Increasing the number of families we support and improve the support they receive during (a) pregnancy and the first few weeks and (b) the early months and years Increasing the financial support our families receive

E-Resources & Publications New Preparing for Parenthood Guide Updated our Healthy Multiple Pregnancy & our Breastfeeding More than One Guides Movement for Multiples Programme - videos on our website Sent out 17,000 free guides, handbooks and magazines Reached est. 76% of all expectant parents in UK

Support & Advice Twinline answered 1,174 calls. Calls becoming more complex. Average length of call 11.62 minutes (12.5) Asktwinline – email support service 80 emails (109). Specialist support groups – bereavement, higher multiples, special needs acted as a link for over 100 families. Honorary consultants received over 52 (73) detailed individual cases.

Courses Ante-natal Classes* 758 (660) parents attended a day long class. Preparing for Parenthood classes (Eng & Scot)* 1,709 (1,300) parents attended these two hour sessions either with Dr Cooper or regional volunteers. Tested Breastfeeding classes* 13 parents (mothers & fathers) Parenting Classes (1-5 years) 387 (300) families received guidance at parenting classes. Twins clinics (NI) Sleep sessions Prof Helen Ball Tested Movement for Multiples – Prof Pat Preedy Preparing for parenthood & hospital talks* (*13.5% of all expectant parents)

Research & Campaigning Health Produced report into the experience of our families during pregnancy birth. Worked with NICE to disseminate the new Multiple Pregnancy guideline for professionals. Undertook research into the care of new babies Development Movement for Multiples Programme with Prof Pat Preedy Finances Campaigned around the consequences of benefit changes Lobbied about Child Benefit changes Education Worked with Dept of Education to amend the school admissions code.

What effect did it have? Pregnancy Guides and Courses help to reduce PND, and arrange more help Our classes for parents with children 1-5 years result in increased knowledge and improved family relationships Our clubs network and messageboards result in less isolated parents Twinline & support groups = greater parental confidence New guidance for health professionals & a baseline benchmark of care to measure from. Finance report – Government restored Surestart Maternity Grant for families with children already Extended the level at which Child Benefit payments are withdrawn Secured a change in the school admissions code to prevent twins, triplets or more being split up against their will when starting school. No reported problems in the latest intake.

What we will do in 2012-13 New website New breastfeeding peer supporter group – virtual, telephone & in person New breastfeeding classes – starting now Working with NICE to produce standards for commissioners Lobbying for more paternity & maternity leave Pressing for a review into the costs of childcare for our families Expanding fundraising and awareness raising

Who does the work? Staff team 13 staff - consists of 6.7 full time members of staff. Volunteers Over 100 volunteers help with governance (trustees), fundraising, support services (twinline, support groups), classes (facilitators) specialist advice (consultants), local clubs and projects. Whilst 1000s (members and non- members) contribute to our research, campaigning and fundraising.
