Purpose of this Presentation Update Council on the Public Information Sessions conducted on February 15, 2012 Inform Council on key recommendations and changes made to the Master Plan following the December 19, 2011 Council Meeting

The Parks & Recreation Master Plan Provides a ‘road map’ for the Municipality’s parks and recreation system Recommendations span a ten year period to 2021 Research & Consultation Phase Public Awareness Background Research Demographics & Trends Online Survey Stakeholder Survey & Interviews Search Conference Needs Assessment Phase Park & Facility Needs Assessment Service Delivery Assessment Draft Master Plan Council Presentation Finalization Phase Public Open Houses Council Presentation Final Recreation Services Plan

The Public Information Sessions Sessions in Tobermory & Lions Head attracted over 40 people in total General support for: ◦Concentrating multiple uses at individual sites, including the Lion’s Head Community Centre ◦Community Development ◦Improving existing parks and facilities ◦Promoting awareness of services through improved signage and communications ◦Opportunities for older adults, as well as for children and youth ◦Ensuring fiscal responsibility in decision-making

Key Findings The Municipality already is following a number of best practices ◦Reserve funds ◦Building relationships with others ◦Accessibility Plans Implies efficiencies, fiscal responsibility, etc. Allows the Municipality to focus on improving its existing assets rather than having to invest in new ones

Key Recommendations Focus on being a provider of facilities Encourage ‘Community Development’ in order to empower groups to deliver more services Consider ways to improve or repurpose existing parks and facilities Acquire 1.5 hectares of new parks by 2021 and promote connectivity

Key Changes in Finalizing the Plan Added discussions on feasibility of public- private partnerships for indoor pools Further discussions with the School Board’s Outreach Coordinator Revised concepts for the Lion’s Head & District Community Centre

Next Steps Council to consider endorsing the Master Plan ‘in principle’ as a guiding document Staff to bring forward recommendations through annual capital and operating budget deliberations Study to determine support, feasibility, design and financial implications of expanding Lion’s Head Community Centre
