Decongestion of Patients in waiting areas to prevent transmission of air borne diseases Provision of water facilities critical in infection control Working with Ministry of Public Works for overall oversite of renovations Letters of appreciation received from Health Facility Administrators Visit renovation sites 1 year onwards to assess impact of Renovations with IPC Funding source: PEPFAR/CDC ZIPCOP YEAR 1 RENOVATIONS More results Criteria of Selection of 10 Hospital Sites for Renovation/Refurbishment Report of the Infection Prevention and Control assessment conducted in 33 health Facilities in Zimbabwe in august – September 2010 by a team appointed by the MoHCC Summary of Renovations recommended following TB risk Assessment visit to the 33 Health facilities (from Appendix 5 of report & small renovations extracted from individual reports of facilities). Modified 4 th March 2012 Facilities inherited from HAQOCI Mpilo Hospital & Chitungwiza To support the MoHCC in improving infection prevention and control practices in health care facilities nationwide to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases, including TB, among patients. The refurbishment exercise will be conducted in selected health facilities with the guidance of MoHCC with the goal of reducing the risk of transmission of infections including TB in health care facilities. Objective is to support refurbishments/renovations of selected central, provincial, or district hospitals to ensure appropriate enviroment conditions in OPD’s & OI clinics to reduce the risk of transmission of airborne infections including TB through reduction of overcrowding in waiting areas, improved ventilation and improved patient flow waiting areas. 5 Year Project with objective to renovate least two facilities per year making a total of 10 for the project period Discussion and conclusion Mpilo Hospital OPD Asphalt Roof with major leaks destroying newly installed ceiling. Heavy water pipes, stones, glass were left above the roof resulting in damage to the water proofing Recommendation strip and lay new mastic asphalt on entire roof and water proof capping on parapet Mpilo Hospital OI Clinic. Eradicate all termite nests. Dotito Rural Health Centre Install 3 concrete Laundry Tubs for Hospital Linen currently being carried out at borehole where community is also drawing out the water. Partitioned existing Consultation Room to create a Drug Dispensary room Replaced existing door with a stable door fitted with approved worktop Fit screen door to improve security for new dispensary Remove existing sink and replace with hand wash basin with elbow operated taps in Consultation room Erect Waiting are shed for the dispensary and supply benches Supply and erect 2 water tanks. Water is unavailable in the hospital due to low pressure of existing water sources. Install reticulation for water to be accessed from borehole. Erect Waiting Area Shed to separate OI patients from TB patients.
