3 Everybody likes an honest man. Negative: There is nobody but likes an honest man. Interrogative: Who does not like an honest man. Passive: An honest man is liked by everybody. Complex: There is nobody who dislikes an honest man. So students, if we notice carefully, we will find that all the above sentences give us the same meaning though they are in different forms. So, it is clear that we can transfer a sentence from one form to another form without changing its meaning and this process of changing sentence is called Transformation. 6 Now read the following sentences and notice them carefully: 1. The girl works hard so that she can shine in life. Simple: The girl works hard to shine in life. 2. The girl is so foolish that she can not understand the simple matter. Simple: The girl is too foolish to understand the simple matter. 3. Though you have done the work, you are not awarded for it. Simple: In spite of your having done the work, you are not awarded for it.

7 1. They went to school although it was raining heavily. 2. He always flatters his boss so that he can get promotion. 3. Mussa was so determined that he could not think of failure. 4. The man came here so that he could enjoy the natural beauty. 5. Salma is so lazy that she can not reach school in time. 6. Though he had a lot of well-wishers, he had to live a miserable life. Answers: 1. They went to school inspite of its being raining heavily. 2. He always flatters his boss to get promotion. 3. Mussa was too determined to think of failure. 4.
