Factors for Urbanization When? – 19 th and early 20 th century People needing jobs + Demand for industrial workers = Urbanization Growth of cities Immigrants settled in cities for cheap housing and available jobs Came from Europe & Asia Improvements in farm technology = fewer farming jobs Many rural people left for cities to find work Ellis Island, New York Harbor
