3 3 MEVALI Schedule Mon 20/02/2012 1100 - Final road freight weights/dimensions to be sent to shipping agent. Boxes are to contain absolutely NO dangerous or hazardous goods. Wed 22/02/2012 - MEVALI pack-up to be at Cranfield Fri 24/02/2012 - road freight pack-up departs Cranfield @ 1100. Mon 27 or Tue 28/02/2012 am - MEVALI test flight, LTI noise test flight (27 th Fire cover not confirmed) Wed 29/02/2012 pm - MEVALI test flight, LTI noise test flight Thu 01 & Fri 02/03/2012 - 146 pack-up, final aircraft preparations, post test-flight instrument rectification Mon 05/03/2012 Detachment Start: Aircraft departs for Kiruna, unpack and set up at airport & hotel Fri 23/03/2012 Detachment End

4 4 Flying Number of hours: ~ 50 mix of Radiation and Cloud Physics Expected no. of flights: Middle week intensive flying, maybe 3 flights either side (possibility of a double flight) Weekend working: yes, weather permitting Early/Late flying: yes –05:00 T/O VACAR or IASI cal/val –Late landings possible if less IASI work Night flying: NO. Flight Crew duty rest days (double crew for middle period): 1 in 7 and 2 consecutive in 14

5 5 Transport: To & from Kiruna Travel to Kiruna FAAM / Directflight / Avalon / Met O on the aircraft Met Office civvy Pack-up to & from Exeter: Most via road, minimal on the aircraft to allow for crew and their baggage Return to Cranfield: As outbound but with CIMS replacing two early departers

14 14 Working at Kiruna Airport We will be working inside the hangar until boarding the 146 Engineers may be outside for up to 45 mins while fuel is topped up, engines start and depart Help may be needed to move hangar - aircraft ground power cable as 146 pulled out High Vis jackets must be worn on the ramp. Stay within the aircraft foot print. Post flight 146 will refuel before being pulled back into hangar – while post flighting be aware if other aircraft moving (this means if the beacon is on) either stay on a/c or stay on walk way. Always carry Kiruna security pass Conform to normal airport security procedures (ie. no liquids/sharp instrument etc. when flying) Be aware of F.O.D. do not drop rubbish. If you see any pick it up and put in the F.O.D. bins.

15 15 Kiruna Airport Access to aircraft -Pre flight will be carried out inside the Arena Arctica hangar – power provided from the hangar -When in the smaller hangar power will be from GPU -Pre flight will be 4 hours (Core Chem & CIMS require this) -Brief will be in hangar conference room 1 hour before departure – all tools off by this time -Post flight – is 1 hour enough after most flights? -Aircraft will be three quarters refuelled before being returned to hangar Security -Kiruna Airport Security pass to access gate from car park and hangar will be issued. -Bags and body search before boarding after CCM security sweep -Bring DFL pass and passport to fly! Pack-up Storage -In hangar on floor Refreshments -In the Terminal – 300+ m walk outdoors. -Could arrange to have sandwiches brought to the hangar

16 16 Health and Safety Precautions = Stay indoors or, where possible, travel by car When outdoors keep skin covered Arctic clothing (trousers, jacket, boots, gloves, hat and facemask) will be rented for all participants. –16 survival sets stored on aircraft –1 set per person for daily use / keeping in car Don’t go out alone and let people know where you are going – and when you expect to return Low temperatures + add wind chill <0 C

17 17 Contact and Costs Mobile Phones GSM 900 / 1800 MHz are used in Sweden as in the UK. FAAM will provide a local SIM and the phones they have (approx 20) but if you have an old dual band phone please bring it. Exchange rate £1 = approx 10 Swedish Krona (SEK) Prices Food – at least half as much again as the UK to eat out Supermarket prices not so bad Alcohol – Supermarkets sell beer up to 3.5% (eg.
