Philosophically: (questions to ask each “leader”) – “World View” 1. Metaphysics/Ontology -Meaning of universe - what is real? Metanarrative? 2. View of knowledge (epistemology)? What is truth? 3. View of humanity/anthropology - What is Man?? 4. Axiology: Values, Morality - From where do values & morality come? What are ultimate values? Right, wrong? And who decides?

I. Manager Leader Characteristics of manager leader: Organizes everything Gives everybody a job Checks up to be sure everyone knows his/her job Evaluates each person: good job = praise not so good, bad = scolding, punishment Everyone reports to him/her People are to be used for production: the bottom line is to get things done efficiently

continue, manager leader…. World and life view, philosophy of life 1. mechanistic universe 2. empiricism -scientific method: what you see is what is what is 3. pragmatism - if it works, it is good 4. people are things to be manipulated value of people is in what they can do for managers 5. ultimate value is bottom line doing what manager wants manipulate people to achieve manager’s goals value is in accomplishment of manger’s goals

II. Ego-centric Leader Characteristics of ego-centric leader: Always wants attention to him/her: “My plans, My success,” “You are my group, my team, my church, my company,” etc. Totally focused on self, build his/her own kingdom and no one else's kingdom People are used for his/her own greed and satisfaction and pleasure Could use force if necessary to get his/her way People are to be manipulated for leader’s benefits Worth of persons: no worth, can discard when finished with them Universe centered around leader

…continue, Ego-centric leader… World and Life View, Philosophically: 1. Reality is in mind of leader - ego-centric mind-set 2. Knowledge is used for ego-centric purposes, what is useful for my purposes is true, right 3. People are used to accomplish ego-centric outcomes 4. Values are ego-centric: whatever leader says is good for him/her

III. Laissez faire Leader Characteristics of laissez faire leader: Does nothing. People can do just about anything that they want to do. Does not help in planning. Just “laid back” and gives no direction, no help, nothing People are just there to be, not necessarily to do anything

…continue, Laissez faire Leader World and life view: philosophy of life: 1. Reality – not an issue: whatever! metaphysical relativist 2. Knowledge is O.K. but not to worry about details, empirical relativism 3. People are nice, but not to worry, pragmatic relativist 4. Values - everyone has his/her own 5. relativist

IV. Dictator Leader Characteristics of dictator leader: Tells people what to do, how to do it, when to do it, and how well to do it. No one makes decisions except the dictator Builds his/her kingdom by force if necessary People are not important as people: they are for the dictator to control for his purposes

….continue Dictator World and life view: philosophy of life: 1. Reality is what leader defines as real 2. Knowledge is dictated by dictator black is white if dictator says so 3. People are for the dictator to use for his own outcomes 4. Values are what the dictator says they are

V. Democratic Leader Characteristics of democratic leader: 1. principled (base democracy on principles, philosophical ideals such as justice, fairness) or merely dictates of majority! 2. if latter – democracy is disordered, haphazard, capricious, always changing, unpredictable, inconsistent 3. if principled/ideal base- there is some philosophical & theological foundation for democracy. Assumption of principled democracy is that people share the same foundational commitments. If they do not, then the capriciousness above is how democratic leaders function. 4. Reality is defined by ideals, principles and then the majority by vote 5. Knowledge is defined by principles as interpreted by the majority 6. Human value defined by majority “personal rights” highest value 7. Good is what the majority say is good

…continue Democratic Leader World and life view: philosophy of life: Always wants to vote on what to do Majority always wins Is careful however because leader does not want to alienate the minority because they could become the majority! People's votes count: they make the decisions, but leader often manipulates people to decide for the direction that the "democratic" leader wants the people to move toward

VI. DEVELOPMENTAL, NURTURING, SERVANT LEADER a leader is one who helps FUNCTION: a leader is one who helps other people to grow, develop, and mature so that the people begin and continue other people to grow, develop, and mature so that the people begin and continue to fulfill the will of the Father. to fulfill the will of the Father.

PURPOSE: To help people identify, develop, exercise, and continually improve their God-given gifts, talents, and natural abilities.

so that the people of God might be built up in love and minister to others in order to fulfill the purpose of the Church of Christ in this world and therefore have fulfilled the will of the Father! OUTCOME: so that the people of God might be built up in love and minister to others in order to fulfill the purpose of the Church of Christ in this world and therefore have fulfilled the will of the Father!
