1 Website design update Show-and-tell Steven Ross Communications & Marketing

2 Drivers for change Business requirements for the design evolution were identified during the CMS consultation sessions of 2011-12 – Began to address these with the 2013 refresh Aspects of the current design’s usability & navigability could be better The need for a small-screen friendly design required a complete review of how we lay out content The new CMS provides the opportunity for us to rethink and test out new approaches

3 Constraints & considerations Planning design, navigation and content layouts across different sized screens The need to harmonise as far as possible with the Polopoly-driven design – 2 CMS will be delivering the website during the transition Current forecast anticipates an 18 month period – Everything migrating from Polopoly needs a ‘home’ in the new layouts The desire to move away from ‘boom and bust’ design – Evolution, not revolution

4 The Edinburgh Experience Language Rather than design some webpage concepts, we’re developing a toolkit for designers of all online interfaces – Consultation with service teams: MyEd, Wiki, PURE, EUCLID, LEARN – Principles around delivery of a responsive site ratified with business reps & web publishers Providing comprehensive guidance – Plus code if you use the same open source platform Further briefing on the Experience Language at next Project Board meeting
