New Lands Cuba became US protectorate (independent but under our control) Puerto Rico and Guam become territories (under US control) US becoming empire, not all liked that 1901 Cuba becomes independent but made Platt Amendment so Cuba couldn’t make treaties and gave us Guantanamo Bay base
