Learning is enhanced when it is more like a team effort than a solo race. Good learning, like good work, is collaborative and social, not competitive and isolated. Working with others often increases involvement in learning. Sharing one's own ideas and responding to others' reactions sharpens thinking and deepens understanding. Chickering, A. W, and Gamson, Z. Collaborative Skills Students do not always come to us with the social skills they need to collaborate effectively with others. Teach the appropriate communication, leadership, trust, decision making, and conflict management skills to students Provide the motivation to use these skills in order for groups to function effectively.

Dream Team If you could build a “Dream Team” of 5 people, who would you choose and why? (People can be living or dead, real or fictional, people you know personally or someone famous) What role do you want them to play? Why would they make a good team member? What talents will you bring to your team?

Forming- Team Resume 1. Create a team resume with the following: List the experiences each member of your team has held in school List the experiences members of your team have held outside of school Calculate the total number of years of work experience List the strengths of each team member brings to the group 2. Give your team a name and make a logo.

Clock Activities 1. Draw a circle on your paper 2. Write your name in the middle 3. Draw a line at 12:00, 3:00, 6:00, and 9:00 4. Go around the room and make an appointment at each time with someone. (Both of you should write your name in that time slot) 5. When you have made an appointment time for each time, return to your seat
