SEVEN SAYING FROM THE CROSS

Luke 23:32-43; 7:34 II Corinthians 5:6, 8 Philippians 1:21-23 John 14:1ff Romans 5:7-8

The answer to the most compelling question of the human experience is offered in the second utterance of Jesus from the cross.

1. Why was Jesus hung between the criminals at crucifixion? 2. Two criminals addressed themselves to the Lord on the cross, only one answer is reported. What was the difference?

3. While the Lord’s first utterance was to pray for sinners, His second was to answer the prayer of a sinner. 4. The question is not what happens when we die, it is instead whom do we believe?

BLESSED ASSURANCE

I. THE PRAYER

Whenever there is a sense of God, there is a sense of sin… the more vision there is of God, the more poignant the sense of sin. Clovis G. Chappell

II. THE ANSWER

That is what divine love is in the end: a passion to enthrall undeserving sinners, at great cost, with what will make us supremely happy forever, namely, his infinite beauty. John Piper
