Art, Architecture, and Writing The civilization of art and writing was lost during the dark ages, there was cultural isolation, and abstract style of poetry was adapted along with the Phoenician alphabet. During the archaic times monumental stone sculptures and vase painting reflected Greek ideas. The classical period is when sculptures were shown in motion or rest, naturally or easy. The hellenistic period was when artists sought to portray inner emotions using dramatic poses.

Major Greek Gods Ares- Dark god of war. Apollo- Beautiful god of the sun, light, medicine, and music Hera- Wife of Zeus, protector of marriage, familiar with magic. Poseidon- God of the sea, horses, and of earthquakes. Zeus- Supreme lord of gods, god of the sky, symbolized by the thurnderbolth

Trojan War The Trojan War started in the city of Troy where 30 Greek men hid in a wooden horse that the Trojans thought was a gift from a god. The men hid in the horse until night time to attack and kill all the men in the city of Troy and kept all the women and kids to be their slaves back in Greece

Famous Heroes Hercules: beat the odds time and again, performed amazing, often helpful tasks Archilles: Greek’s best warrior Theseus: Saved Athens by slaying monsters and keeping families together Odysseus: came up with the idea of the Trojan Horse

Famous Monsters Cyclops: Giants with one eye, who ate humans Cerberus: multi-headed, flesh eating, and scare the gods Harpies: bird-women who pollute food Medusa: head covered in snakes, and turned man into stone with one look Sphinx: killed people if they didn’t solve a riddle correctly
