6 Where are we in the district Strategic Operating Plan? The New K-2K-2 Vision Statement All students will read rich, complex literary and informational text independently and proficiently through a guaranteed and viable K-2 Literacy Curriculum. All students will be highly engaged in rigorous and relevant literacy instruction through a student-centered, comprehensive and balanced literacy approach. Students will think creatively as they individually and collaboratively build knowledge through exploration, and analyze concepts, issues, events and themes from diverse perspectives.

8 PreK-5 Literacy Plan Goals Curriculum Goal All students will have an equal opportunity to learn and have access to rigorous and relevant instruction aligned to the English/Language Arts Connecticut Core Standards through an engaging curriculum that integrates Science and Social Studies. Professional Learning Goal All HPS PreK-5 Literacy Curriculum teachers will receive high-quality professional learning opportunities around curriculum implementation, sharing of best practices and ongoing collaboration and refinement of problems of practice leading to highly effective implementation.

11 Clearly Defined Roles & Responsibilities Leadership: Professional learning that enhances both educator practice and outcomes for each and every student requires and develops leadership capacity at all levels to advocate for and create systems for professional learning.

12 Clearly Defined Communication Systems & Procedures Resources: Professional learning that enhances both educator practice and outcomes for each and every student requires purposeful planning for the identification, coordination, monitoring, evaluation, and equitable use and allocation of resources to support educator learning. Implementation: Professional learning that enhances both educator practice and outcomes for each and every student applies change research and uses tools to identify and support the developmental stages of change and ensures the fidelity of implementation.

13 Job-Embedded & Out of School Professional Learning Data: Professional learning that enhances both educator practice and outcomes for each and every student requires the use of both quantitative and qualitative student, educator and system data to plan, implement, monitor and assess professional learning. Outcomes: Professional learning that enhances both educator practice and outcomes for each and every student is aligned with district/school goals, relevant Connecticut standards, and other agreed-upon standards for educator practice and student growth.
