2 FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Goals Review basic honor concepts Review how the honor code affects: special orders, leave, rifle counts, all in’s, interactions with guard teams. Review FERPA and how it affects the honor code. 2

3 FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Review What is Quibbling? Two conditions must be present for any act to be considered an HV? What is an Improper Question? What is your role as a member of the Corps in the Honor System? What is the Role of your Company Honor Representative? 3

4 FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Special Orders Once the activity that you are on Special Orders/Leave has completed, you must return to campus immediately You are not allowed to take General leave in conjunction with Special Orders/Leave if you have prior obligations (Class, Punishments, etc) 4

5 FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Leave My signature below certifies that I have the required leave available and I must be Academic, Conduct, Physically Proficient as of the date and time I sign out on leave.” Ensure that you are proficient before you sign out on leave. 5

6 FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Rifle Counts “I verify that I have witnessed a physical inventory conducted by both the Company Supply Sergeant and Armorer, or specified weekend duty team” You cannot just take the correct numbers and add them to the sheet 6

7 FOR TRAINING USE ONLY All In’s Remember when you sign your name as a Division Inspector you are certifying that no Cadets are AWOL unless you placed their name in the AWOL Block “The above signatures mean EVERY room in the company was checked at the final All-In.” 7

8 FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Guard Teams Any statement made to any member of the guard team is considered an official statement. If asked a question by the Guard team, you are required to answer truthfully and directly. Write a statement and contact your Company Honor Rep if you feel that you may have been asked an improper question. 8

9 FOR TRAINING USE ONLY While on guard be responsible with questions, i.e. don’t create an honor problem. If someone is visible intoxicated then there is no reason to question them to ask if they are intoxicated. Don’t ask improper questions. If you were coming through the gates would you want to be asked an improper question? 9

10 FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) What is FERPA? FERPA is a Federal Statute enacted in 1974 Compliance is required by all Public Schools by the US Department of Education Failure to comply with standards could result in the loss of all Federal Funding to institution All students who attend the Citadel have FERPA rights, and retain them as long as they live. 10

11 FOR TRAINING USE ONLY All matters pertaining to the investigation, trial, finds, and appeal are protected under the students FERPA right Discussion of the above matters to those who do not have a Legitimate Educational Interest results in possibly jeopardizing an Honor Case as well as disciplinary action. 11

12 FOR TRAINING USE ONLY Discussion Is downloading music, peer-to-peer, an honor violation? Should it be? Where is the Spirit of the Code? If you suspect your best friend/classmate of committing an honor violation, what would you do? Would you confront them? What are your thoughts on fake I.D.’s? What about using another college student’s ID card in order to get into student seating? 12
